Park Yoo Mi, the writer behind tvN‘s currently-airing drama “Plus Nine Boys” responded to the recent plagiarism accusations from the creator of the musical “Exit 9.”

Park Yoo Mi released a long statement in response to the accusations from Lee Jung Joo, the writer of “Exit 9.”

“To get to the point, the two works have no connections whatsoever,” she started.

She then stated, “I want to clarify this, as I have just completed writing the 14th episode. Writer Lee Jung Joo has been making it seem like an actual plagiarism case by talking to the media and writing on our viewer board.”

She also added, “The synopsis for ‘Plus Nine Boys’ was completed in January and we have proof of the e-mails sent regarding this. ‘Exit 9’ was on stage in February. When we wrote the synopsis we had no idea that the musical production existed.”

She refuted the similarities between the characters. “The 39 year-old Koo Kwang Soo character is based on our own PD, and his story is 80% based on the producer’s life.”

She further voiced her disappointment at how the case was handled. “This is the first drama project for us five writers and the producer, so we were working on it with great pride. However, after the plagiarism accusations, the drama was branded as just that and our honor as freelancers was tainted. This is also a big issue, and we are willing to take legal actions.”
