The Most Retweeted from Korean Celebrities, Most Talked About on Twitter, and More from 2014!
On December 10, Twitter Korea uploaded a blog post breaking down Korea’s year on Twitter.
(Correction: BTS V (Taehyung)’s tweet with EXO’s Baekhyun after MAMA 2014 actually takes the golden tweet title for 2014! See below.)
According to the post, Korea’s golden tweet of the year was G-Dragon’s (@IBGDRGN) tweet, “#PRAYFORSOUTHKOREA,” which he tweeted in response to the Sewol Ferry tragedy. To date, G-Dragon’s tweet has been retweeted 52,898 times by fans not just from Asia, but from all around the world, including Russia, the United States, Brazil, Costa Rica, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
Super Junior Choi Siwon’s (@siwon407) tweet, “with beautiful ladies,” which includes a picture of him with some fellow SM dudes dressed up as women, came in at second with 44,534 retweets to date. See the full list, which is pretty much dominated by Super Junior members, on Twitter Korea’s timeline.
The blog post featured other rankings, including a list of the most discussed topics or events on the site. The April 16 Sewol Ferry incident topped this list. Many came to Twitter to get the latest news on the tragedy and to voice their support, consolations, and prayers. Tweets including updates on the incident were retweeted as soon as they were posted.
Second on the list was Kim Yuna’s silver medal controversy at the 2014 Winter Olympics, followed by the 6.4 regional elections, the South Korea vs. Algeria match at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Pope Francis’s visit to Korea, and more. Coming in at ninth place was the Episode 48 of MBC‘s “Jang Bo Ri Is Here.”
On the most followed chart, Choi Siwon came in first with 4.42 million followers, followed by band mate Donghae, Psy, G-Dragon, Super Junior’s Yesung, miss A’s Suzy, and more.
