Super Junior M’s Zhoumi Responds to Backlash over “Abnormal Summit” Comments

Super Junior M member Zhoumi has issued a lengthy written response after Chinese web users reacted angrily to comments he made during a recent appearance on JTBC talk show “Abnormal Summit.”

During the show, Zhoumi explained that his mother was once cheated by a conman who drugged her and stole money and credit cards from her. He also added, “Generally speaking, China is not a very dangerous county. You do, however, need to be very careful there.” Zhang Yuan replied, “A lot of Chinese people watch this show,” at which Zhoumi said, “Oh, I love China!”

The web users, who felt that Zhoumi was using this story to slight the state of personal security in China, took to the Internet to post some criticism of the star. Some commenters even claimed the star may have falsified the story about the thief to gain attention.

Zhoumi has since taken to social networking sites to post a long response in Chinese to these attacks, pointing out as he said during the show, “I do love my own country.” He explained that he had in no way lied about the incident involving his mother, and that the story going around on the internet is distorted and misrepresented.

The star also added, “’Abnormal Summit’ is a Korean show. I have limited Korean skills, so I could not express my opinions as clearly as I might have liked. I certainly had no intention whatsoever of trying to slight China in any way.”
