JYP Entertainment Planning to Form New Girl Group through Mnet Survival Show

Barely 24 hours after the finale of Starship Entertainment‘s “NO. MERCY,” it has been announced that JYP Entertainment is the next agency in talks to team up with Mnet for a survival show.

According a report by MBN, JYP is currently planning to create a new girl group through the show. The contestants will be current trainees under JYP, and they are expected to engage in intense competition, all hoping to make the cut and debut in the first girl group to come out from JYP since 2010, when miss A made its debut.

The format will be similar to that of previous survival shows “WIN,” “MIX & MATCH,” and “NO. MERCY,” which led to the formation of WINNER, iKON, and MONSTA X, respectively. According to MBN, the show is currently in planning stages, and the premiere is tentatively set for mid-April.

In response to the report, a representative of JYP stated to Newsen that the show has not been confirmed. “It is true that we are in talks with Mnet regarding the production of a survival show that would create a girl group. However, we have not decided on any of the details.”

“We have prepared for the debut of a new girl group since last year, and the debut is likely to take place this year, but nothing has been confirmed,” the agency added.
