Theater Geeks: K-Drama Stars Take The Stage

An actor’s voice reverberates in the air, electrifying the moment in a packed auditorium.

There’s nothing quite like the intimacy of live theater.

In my high school days, the theater geeks were considered to be an eccentric lot. Now I recognize them to be a ballsy bunch.

In fact, many of our favorite K-Drama stars have been known to grace the stage.

Ji Chang Wook

What could be better than Ji Chang Wook onscreen? Ji Chang Wook live in the flesh, of course. The “Healer” star took to the stage in “Thrill Me” and in the musical “The Days,” reprised a role as Mu Young, a bodyguard at the presidential Blue House.

Kang Ha Neul

Kang Ha Neul began this year performing in a play, “Harold and Maude,” right after “Misaeng” wrapped. The actor is no stranger to the stage, as the Chung Ang University graduate majored in theater and began his career in stage productions. His theatrical background includes musicals “Thrill Me,” “Assassins,” and “Prince Puzzle.”

Lee Sung Min

Beloved Manager Oh from “Misaeng,” Lee Sung Min, has been involved in the theater scene for many years, long before turning heads onscreen in “Golden Time,” “The King 2 Hearts,” and last year’s “Misaeng.” He even took home the Best Actor In A Play honors at the 8th Golden Ticket Awards in 2012 for “The Weir.”

Jung Eunji, the A Pink star of last year’s “Trot Lovers (and of one of my all-time favorites, “Answer Me 1997“), took a turn as Elle Woods in a musical production of “Legally Blonde” from 2012-2013. She also joined a few folks from the K-Pop family (Leo from VIXX, Yang Yoseob of BEAST) in musical “Full House.

Honey Lee

Actress Honey Lee stepped out onstage before starring in dramas “Modern Farmer” and the current Shine or Go Crazy (with Jang Hyuk).

The former crowned Miss Korea has graced the stage in “Guys and Dolls,” 2008’s “Polaroid” (with Andy Lee), and played Roxie Hart in “Chicago.”

Which other K-Drama stars do you want to see onstage?
