XIA Junsu’s Epic New Music Video for “Flower” Is a Visual Feast

JYJ member XIA Junsu makes a solo comeback after almost two years with a striking music video for the eponymous title track of his third album “Flower.”

Co-written by XIA Junsu and Taewan (also known as C-Luv), “Flower” features a hip hop beat with a twist. Combining classical strings with background vocals that feature operatic vocal lines as well as a Gregorian chant, “Flower” is at once ethereal and epic. Not to mention, Epik High’s Tablo makes a cameo, weaving his poetry seamlessly into the song.

The music video does the epic track justice with its vivid visuals and grandiose, if perhaps at times inscrutable, imagery. The video opens with XIA Junsu as the angsty king of a mythical empire sitting on his throne when a pack of discontented subjects barge in and throw the decapitated head of a cyborg at his feet.

Gold is a recurrent motif. The cyborg’s head is gold and gold costumes and statues abound. In an especially memorable scene, Junsu pours himself a cup of gold elixir.

There is also an adorable but creepy girl who seems to cause Junsu’s ultimate demise. In one of the last scenes, she laughs as Junsu writhes in pain while regurgitating electric blue vomit (Yes, electric blue vomit).
