San E Collaborates with 13 Rappers Worldwide for “#HIPHOPISHIPHOP,” MV Revealed
International hip hop collective Hip Hop for the World has released the music video for their charity single “#HIPHOPISHIPHOP.”
Spearheaded by South Korea’s very own San E, “#HIPHOPISHIPHOP” is the collaboration of 14 rappers from four different continents and 14 different countries, including San E, Strike the Head from Italy, Frenkie from Bosnia, Pendekar from Singapore, Adx from India, Valete from Portugal, Mr Phormula from Wales, Yacko from Indonesia, SadmAnn from Bangladesh, Julian Nagano from Japan, Deeb from Egypt, Mr. Skin from Taiwan, Redrama from Finland, and KRS-One from the United States.
The music video, which premiered exclusively on Billboard, communicates a message of unity in diversity as each of the artists raps in his/her mother tongue. San E raps the opening verses, “Everybody represents their countries, rapping in their own languages/ Although different in colors and thoughts/ This culture is based on peace and one love/ Hip hop is hip hop.” The video also features art forms inspired by hip hop, including DJing, b-boying, and beatboxing.
According to Billboard, #HIPHOPISHIPHOP was San E’s high school dream. “As an immigrant, if I let my friends listen to Korean hip hop music, they’d be like, ‘They can rap in Korean?’ I always wanted to let everybody know hip hop is worldwide; it can be rap in all different languages you never heard. It took awhile to make it really happen, now here it is,” said the rapper.
Renown hip hop artists, including DJ Premier, Rook of J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, DJ Don Cannon, have offered their salutes to the project.
“#HIPHOPISHIPHOP” will be released via online music sites on March 5, KST. All proceeds from the track will be donated to United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
