Fan Thanks SHINee Key for His Support in Her Recovery from Self-Harming

A SHINee fan on Instagram (Chakira @locketpowerr) recently updated and thanked member Key for his pivotal role in her personal road to recovery from cutting.

She posted photos of her progress, and left the message, “Dear Key Kibum, thank you. Thank you so much for existing and us Shawols are so thankful and blessed to have you as our idol. Thank you for supporting me, even though I’m still not fully recovered, I can honestly say that without you I wouldn’t be where I am today. <3”

One year ago, the SHINee member approached Chakira on Instagram and left words of encouragement, saying that he also had a “really bad habit” when he was young and that he still has the scars to prove it. He said, “Don’t cut anymore and show me you’re getting better on your Instagram. I’ll be by your side! Love, Key.”

While Chakira is still very much in the fight, Key’s words and the following support from Shawols made all the difference!

She left a message for her supporters, saying that she’ll keep fighting forever, and that she’s so thankful for the support from everyone:

So here’s the cheesy speech I was talking about. Even though the “mission” you guys made is already accomplished I still wanted to post this, I hope you’ll read it to the end but I don’t blame you if you won’t.

Today is March 25th 2015. As you may already know today is exactly 1 year since Key left a comment on my photo. Because of that I met tons and tons of Shawols from all over the world, you guys, who I’m still friends with to this day. Now, I’m still struggling to recover from self harm and other mental illnesses, and I probably will for a long time, but I am still in recovery and I can honestly say that without all of you I wouldn’t even be where I am right now.

I don’t think you guys understand. Because of you guys I know that I’m not alone anymore, because I know there are so many more of you out there going through the same, and even if you’re not going through the same. Just knowing that you’re still here is just wonderful. I want to help as many of you as I can, because you’re helping me. I want you to know that I’m always here for you guys too, in the end we’re still Shawols and we’re a family.

And dear Key, I don’t know if you’ll even read this but if you do; thank you so so much. You have no idea how much of a difference you’ve made in my life. Like I said I’ve had good moments and relapses, and I’m still struggling to this day, but in recovery. And to be honest without you I would never even have searched for help. You gave me a reason to recover and to keep fighting. And I will continue to fight, forever. That’s a promise, I won’t give up.

Recovering from something like this is hard, but it’s not impossible. It may take many more months or even years, but without YOU and without the Shawols by my side I’d have no reason to even try. And I’m very thankful for that, so thank you.

Anyway, dear everyone and dear Key: I’m not 100% recovered and I still have bad days, but your support has honestly helped me through so so much and I hope you’ll stick with me for much longer. I can’t explain how thankful I am for every single one of you. I’ll keep fighting, I always will. Thank you Key, thank you SHINee World, you’re daebak. Saranghae, hwaiting!
