Epik High’s Tablo Calls K-Hip-Hop a Plentiful Buffet in Interview with MTV Iggy

On April 1, MTV Iggy released an article about hip-hop group Epik High, who recently headlined for the third annual “K-Pop Night Out” at South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival in Austin, Texas.

Entitled “ICON: Epik High Continues to Reign K-Hip-Hop,” the article calls Epik High “largely responsible for raising the bar for K-hip-hop through emotionally charged lyricism and complex musicality.”

During the interview, Tablo jokingly refers to himself as the nation’s hip-hop ambassador as he advocates for Korean hip-hop, “K-hip-hop right now is amazing. It’s very vibrant and you won’t find two artists who are doing the same thing.”

He continues, “It’s basically a smorgasbord of different vibes you can get out of hip-hop. Korean hip-hop has that down, right now.”

Tablo also talks Epik High’s upcoming label “High Ground,” which he will helm, “It would be great if artists had more opportunities to get out. Epik High has been very blessed with that because we’ve been around for a long time.

“We’ve been very lucky; we wish that some of these other acts could get out. We are going to help them do that. We are trying to expand what we are doing. At the same time, we can arrange so that more of these acts can get out.”

According to the article, Epik High is gearing up for an American tour. Meanwhile, on April 18, the group will hold a concert at the SM Skydome in Manila then on April 19 in Hong Kong’s Rotunda3. In May, they are slated to tour eight cities in Japan.
