Jang Dong Min in Hot Waters Again as a Sampoong Department Store Collapse Survivor Files Lawsuit for Defamation
Comedian Jang Dong Min is in hot waters once again as he is sued for defamation.
On April 27, KBS2’s “KBS Morning News Time” reported that Jang Dong Min was sued by a survivor of the Sampoong Department Store collapse disaster back in 1995 that took the lives of over 500 people and injured over 900 more.
Jang Dong Min mentioned the disaster on the Internet Podcast “Dreaming Radio.” He was on the topic of health societies, and while talking about a society whose members drink urine, he said, “Even when the Sampoong Department Store collapsed, that woman who was rescued after 21 days survived drinking her own urine.”
This remark became the problem as one of the survivors of the disaster, known only as ‘A,’ sued Jang Dong Min for defamation and contempt.
At this, the plaintiff’s deputy said, “One of the final survivors sued Jang Dong Min. They were at the brink of death in the face of a difficult time, and not only was that process being used as a comedic item, but it was also made to be a joke and be insulting. That seems to have shocked them.”
Meanwhile, Jang Dong Min was recently in the center of another controversy when the misogynistic comments he had made on the same podcast last August resurfaced. He apologized for his comments afterwards, but it seems that this lawsuit may put him in a tight bind once again.
