Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2015 – May Week 1

EXO’s “Call Me Baby” shows no sign of slowing down and tops our chart for the third straight week. This song picked up another three music show wins last week in “Music Core,” “Music Bank,” and “Show Champion.” So far, “Call Me Baby” has racked up an amazing 18 music show wins and still counting. Congratulations again to EXO!

There are five new songs in the top 10 this week, including the No. 2 song. Moving up 10 spots from No. 12 is EXID’s new song “Ah Yeah.” EXID became a household name with their previous hit “Up And Down.” Riding on their high popularity, EXID released their second mini-album “Ah Yeah.” The title track of the same name is a hip-hop style funky dance song. The lyrics are about a woman’s interesting response to a man who doesn’t make the first move.  “Ah Yeah” won on “Inkigayo” last week, preventing “Call Me Baby” from doing a sweep.  It will definitely be a serious contender for the top spot next week.

JYP’s pupil miss A’s “Only You” was very close to overtaking EXO’s “Call Me Baby” but faded to No. 3 this week. Just below it is the teacher himself. Park Jin Young’s latest hit “Who’s Your Mama” moves up 15 spots to No. 4 this week. This song is coming from Park Jin Young’s digital single “24/34,” which praises women with a 24-inch waist and a 24-inch hip. The song has a vintage JYP style of upbeat R&B groove sound. Lucky J’s Jessi, who has become popular recently participating on “Unpretty Rapstar,” is the featured rapper.

Moving up 11 spots to No. 5 is an artist who is coming back from hiatus for 11 long years. The last time we heard from Jinusean was back in 2004 with the song “Phone Number.” The duo’s biggest hit was perhaps their 2001 song “A-Yo.” Now they are on our Soompi music chart for the very first time with “Tell Me One More Time.” This song has synth sound and drum beat. The lyrics are about a man who wants his ex-lover coming back to him. K-Pop Star 3’s Jang Hana is featured in this song.

Up 13 spots to No. 7 is the first sub-unit from Block B. The trio of P.O, B-Bomb, and U-Kwon formed Block B Bastarz. They released their first mini-album “Zero For Conduct.”   The title song was inspired by a classic French movie of the same name. Block B’s Zico wrote this song for his group mates.

Moving up two spots to No. 9 is rapper Primary’s first top 10 hit “See You.” This song is coming from his single album “2-1.” The song is of soul funk genre. It features the vocal of Kim Bum Soo (known as BSK on this song) and the rapping of Dynamic Duo’s Gaeko, who has worked with Primary before.
