Ailee Blows Judges Away with Powerful Voice on "King of Mask Singer"

On May 24’s episode of “King of Mask Singer,” the contestant that has been performing behind a pink disguise slips off her mask to reveal her true identity, and she’s none other than songstress Ailee!

She previously sang “The Blue in You” by Kim Hyun Chul and Lee So Ra as a duet with another contestant in the first round on the May 17 episode.

As the competition continues on May 24’s episode, Ailee performs the song “For You” by Im Jae Bum in the second round and is sent through to battle the next competitor.

Judge Lee Hyun Do is the first in the panel to guess her identity, both by her dramatic hand gestures and her originality.

In the next round, still with her mask on, she sings “Bruise” by Kim Hyun Jung.

When Ailee loses the vote to her competitor and takes off her mask, she says jokingly, “I feel like I got found out far too quickly, so I was a bit disappointed.”

“I figured that Lee Hyun Do would know who I am right away,” she adds. “Since we’ve worked together on recordings a few times. I did my best to conceal my identity, but he’s really got a sixth sense.”

“I couldn’t help but know it was you, I’m sorry,” replies Lee Hyun Do. “I’m a fan of your voice!”

“But I’m grateful that I was able to show everyone what I’d prepared for today,” Ailee says.

In her post-show interview, she adds that she was glad to have the opportunity to have the judges critique her performance without any prejudices about her. “I have an image as a bit of a strong person,” she says. “I wanted to try singing a sweet love song.”

“This will be a lifelong memory,” she says with a big laugh.
