Mnet Preparing Girl Group Project Involving 101 Trainees

Music cable channel Mnet is preparing a  project involving a whooping number of 101 trainees.

According to an industry insider, Mnet is currently preparing a massive girl group debut project “Produce 101” (working title), planned for a premiere in September.

“Produce 101” will be the nation’s first agency-collaboration unit girl group project. 101 female trainees from different agencies will come together to compete, and 10 members will be chosen to be part of the project group. It was reported that SM Entertainment and YG Entertainment will not be partaking in the program.

This ambitious project is planned to be a year long program. Groups will rotate, with the members chosen by the viewers and the judges releasing a single, and another group chosen afterwards will release the next single. The members who are chosen to be part of the unit group(s) will be active through Mnet, but may later join a girl group that their agencies are planning.

Mnet is currently pitching this show to various agencies, highlighting how the trainees could gain exposure and provide valuable financial profits through the show while still in their trainee-status.
