[Updated] Authorities Searching for Good Samaritan That Saved Elderly Woman on Subway

Authorities are searching for a middle-aged man who abruptly vanished after using CPR to save an elderly woman who fainted on a subway train.

According to reports, the woman lost consciousness and fell to the floor of a line four train heading to Jeongwang Station in Siheung City. After hearing a “thud” sound as the woman hit the floor, a sense of surprise and confusion set in among the train’s passengers, but no one immediately stepped up to help.

But a man who appears to be in his 50s went to the woman’s side and began performing CPR without hesitation. After more than 10 minutes, the woman then finally regained consciousness and was moved by emergency responders to a hospital.

According to a citizen who filmed the scene, “No one stepped forward to help the grandmother, possibly because they were afraid of MERS. Even though that male passenger looked like he had a problem with his leg, he performed CPR while sweating bullets. I really want to find this person who just disappeared after saving the woman as if nothing had happened,” they said.

A representative of the Jeongwang Station office also confirmed that “There was no trace left of the man who performed CPR.”

UPDATE:

On June 26, YTN found the good samaritan and interviewed him. The good samaritan, who has a physical disability from childhood, has been identified as Kang Kyung Beom. He shares why he helped the elderly woman and says, “It felt like looking at my mother. Anyone would have done that for their mother. Because of this feeling, I took action.”
