Learn Languages with HelloTalk and Win $50 Amazon Gift Certificates!

Want to learn a new language, chat and make friends with native speakers from around the world, and have the chance to win a $50 gift certificate from Amazon? Where do you even sign up, right?^^

HelloTalk is a free mobile app for iOS and Android devices that allows you to chat with, call, and get help from fellow language learners. Available in over 120 languages, HelloTalk isn’t a course you have to follow strictly. Instead, it’s a platform that allows you to meet (and strike up online or phone conversations with) people from all around the world. These people can help you with pronunciation, correct your grammar on the fly, and/or just chat with you as language partners! There’s a function for you to store vocabulary, sentences, audio files, and photos which will help you in your language learning. You can also do written or voice-to-text translations!

We tested the app beforehand. It asked us to select our language capabilities, as well as which languages we wanted to learn. We obviously said we knew English, and wanted to learn Korean. 😉 It showed us a long list of people we could talk to.

We found that there were a LOT of Korean speakers online – it was actually hard to choose someone! Although we could filter by location, nationality, and language level, it would have been nice to have an option to search by interest (… such as K-pop and K-drama!). Instead, we randomly started checking out people’s profiles (we’re picky and curious like that)… when suddenly, we got a message! Our new friend turned out to be a Korean speaker in Canada who was interested in learning English, Spanish, and Turkish. Wow! We ended up chatting in English… we obviously couldn’t help him out with Spanish or Turkish, but perhaps one of you can. 😉 And once you do learn Korean, the better chance you have of getting closer to your favorite idol!
