Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2015 – August Week 4

There are two brand new songs squaring off for No. 1 this week, by the artists who bring back memories of their epic battle on this chart years ago. BIGBANG’s “Let’s Not Fall In Love” defeats Wonder Girls’ I Feel You” for the top spot.

Before we get into the details of these new songs, let’s flash back to 2007 when both BIGBANG and Wonder Girls’ were relatively new artists who enjoyed their first big hit: BIGBANG’s “Lie” spent seven straight weeks on top of our chart (which is still a record and will probably be hard to break). This song was so strong and it took Wonder Girls’ “Tell Me” to oust it from the top spot. “Tell Me” went on to build a legacy of its own as it spent the next six weeks as No. 1 on our chart. Both BIGBANG and Wonder Girls had their breakthrough hit and the rest is history. BIGBANG has been one of the top Kpop artists for many years now. Wonder Girls, despite going through a few lineup changes, are still very popular. It is a very special occasion this week that they are battling for the top spots once again.

BIGBANG’s “Let’s Not Fall In Love” moves up 16 spots to become the group’s third chart topping hit this year, which is the most among all artists. This song is of the two title track of their fourth and last MADE Series “E.” It is a mid-tempo R&B sad song, probably the most listener-friendly song of the eight tracks that BIGBANG has released so far this year. It is about a typical love story but describing in an unorthodox way. This song won on Inkigayo and Music Core last week as well. Congratulations to BIGBANG.

Wonder Girls “I Feel You” moves up 12 spots to No. 2. Coming back as a four member group this time, “I Feel You” is the title song of Wonder Girls third studio album “REBOOT.” It is an electrical rock style song that is quite different from what we hear from Wonder Girls before. The members play the instruments themselves like a band. This is Wonder Girls’ first hit song in three years and they are coming back strong.

Besises the top two songs, there are two other new songs in the top 10 this week. Moving up 15 spots to No. 4 is SHINee’s “Married To The Music.” This is the title song from their repackaged fourth album. It is a disco song with guitar and brass sound. It describes the feelings of falling in love with music. “Married To The Music” won Music Bank and Show Champion last week. Let see if SHINee can score their second No. 1 this year next week.

BIGBANG’s second new song “Zutter” is also in the top 10 this week, moving up nine spots to No. 9. This is a G-Dragon and T.O.P duet that is for their more hardcore hip-hop fans. It is GD & T.O.P’s first release together since 2010.
