Weekly K-Pop Music Chart 2015 – September Week 1

Lots of changes in the top 10 this week as half of the songs are new entries, including the top two.

Girls’ Generation scores their second No. 1 hit this year with “Lion Heart.” This song is one of the two title songs from their fifth studio album of the same name. It is a retro style mid-tempo ballad, probably the slowest tempo song Girls’ Generation has released as a title track. It showcases another side of the group. The lyrics compare a guy who has a wandering eye to a lion. “Lion Heart” swept all the music shows last week and is just four points below a perfect chart score. Congratulations to Girls’ Generation.

Moving up 16 spots to No. 2 is the comeback hit “Love You” from SG Wannabe. This song is from SG Wannabe’s mini-album “The Voice,” their first release in more than four years. SG Wannabe was one of the most popular Kpop ballad groups in the last decade. After releasing their seventh album in 2011, two of the three members were enlisted in the military so the group went on to an extended hiatus. Now they are finally back. Working once again with songwriter Cho Young Soo, who wrote most of SG Wannabe’s biggest hits. “Love You” is a medium tempo ballad that showcases each member’s great voices. “Love You” scored higher than “Lion Heart” in GAON Chart to prevent the latter from having a perfect score but is still quite far behind in total points. Let see if it will close the gap next week.

Last two week’s No. 1 song BIGBANG’s “Let’s Not Fall In Love” fell two spots to No. 3 this week.

4Minute’s sexy queen Hyuna is back with her latest hit “Roll Deep,” moving up 16 spots to No. 4. This is the title track of her fourth mini-album “A+.” It has a trendy hip-hop beat and brass sound. BTOB’s Jung Ilhoon is also featured in this song.

Moving up 17 spots to No. 8 is the first sub-unit of VIXX. Leo and Ravi formed the duo VIXX LR. Their first hit “Beautiful Liar” is from their mini-album of the same name. This song is of very different style than VIXX’s usual strong dance beat hits. “Beautiful Liar” is a mid-tempo R&B ballad with additive melodies and hip-hop beats. The lyrics are about a man who pretends to be okay after a breakup and calls himself a beautiful liar.

Two artists have two songs in top 10 this week. Besides BIGBANG, SG Wannabe also places both their title songs in the top 10. Their other title song “Good Memory” moves up 12 spots to No. 9. This Kim Ho Hoon written hit is a vintage SG Wannabe style song. The lyrics include the phrase “Saldaga” (As I Live) which immediately caught every SG Wannabe fans’ attention. “Saldaga” was one of SG Wannabe’s biggest hits released 10 years ago. The lyrics describe the good memories of a person’s happiest moments. This song is like a reflection of all the good memories SG Wannabe has brought us throughout their career.
