Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae Donate 50 Million Won to Nepal Earthquake Relief

Korea’s hip hop power couple Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae have donated 50 million won (approx. $41,000 USD) through Oxfam Korea to aid in earthquake relief efforts in Nepal.

On April 25 of this year, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Nepal and caused huge damage to the country, causing 8,500 casualties and affecting over 8 million people. It destroyed around 750,000 homes, and displaced 2.8 million people. Organizations like Oxfam Korea have continued to work in these countries to help the victims of the earthquake, however global interest in the post-earthquake rehabilitation of the region has waned. This donation from Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae is intended to both help the earthquake victims as well as raise awareness of the continued need for support.

Tiger JK says, “When my father was ill with cancer, he really wanted to go to the Himalayas. When I heard about the earthquake this spring, I thought about my father. I wondered if I could help the people in Nepal, where my dad so wanted to visit. So we decided to make this donation because we hope it can be even a little bit of help.”

Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae’s donation will be used for the provision of food, clean drinking water, sanitation kits, and temporary bathrooms and shelters, which will help save lives as well as prevent the spread of infectious disease. It will also be used as part of Oxfam’s ongoing projects to aid the rehabilitation of Nepal and revitalize the economy in the region.

Tiger JK and Yoon Mi Rae are renowned hip hop artists and members of the group MFBTY. They got married in 2007, and have one son who was born in 2008.
