Jung Ryeo Won Confesses That She Faced Racism When She Lived in Australia

Actress Jung Ryeo Won confessed that she was a victim of racism when she was growing up in Australia.

On the first broadcast of “How’s Life” on September 15, Jung Ryeo Won recounted the days when she lived in Australia.

After seeing some licorice candies, she says, “If you eat this, you’ll break your jaw. I know this because I was bullied in Australia. I didn’t speak a lot of English and I got this candy from kids and that was when I realized, ‘They don’t want to be my friends.'”

Im Soo Mi asks, “What does it taste like?” And Jung Ryeo Won responds with laughter, “It tastes like being a loner.”

In the interview that followed, Jung Ryeo Won says, “Rather than bullying, it was closer to racism. This was a time when there weren’t many Asians in Australia, and they thought it was strange, so they made fun of me. Nowadays, if they do that, they’d get in trouble. Now if you go to Australia, Asians are more popular.”
