5 Awesome Reasons to Watch

Park Seo Joon and Hwang Jung Eum are back together in MBC’s latest Wednesday-Thursday drama, “She Was Pretty,” as childhood friends who were separated for years until Park Seo Joon’s character (Ji Sung Joon) returns to Korea to find his first love, Kim Hye Jin (Hwang Jung Eum). Hye Jin should be happy right? Well, she is, until she realizes her “good” looks are gone thanks to her father’s dominant “ugly” genes and her childhood friend  has grown up to be an incredibly hot guy. So what’s a girl to do? She enlists her best friend Min Ha Ri (Go Joon Hee) to play her, of course. The synopsis is already the ultimate set up for hijinks and those typical drama moments where the leads end up in close proximity, but what are some other reasons to watch this new romantic comedy? Well…

Hwang Jung Eum

SWP3 Okay, the list is over. Just kidding! I wouldn’t leave it like this, although, you have to admit it is a VERY good reason. Hwang Jung Eum is a favorite among viewers for her ability to nail her roles and some have acknowledged that she has a knack for picking projects. This drama is no exception and shows her versatility as an actress. Not every actress could play an “ugly” character in the way Hwang Jung Eum plays Kim Hye Jin. I mean, there was a scene where she thought she lost a tooth from falling. I can leave it at that. Just watch.

Siwon’s Face

SWP4 I mean, look at him. Choi Siwon plays these types of roles so well, it can be frightening sometimes. His character, Kim Shin Hyuk, is cocky and thinks he’s much cooler than he actually is, but that just makes everything funnier. He does seem amused by Hye Jin and makes his curiosity no secret at all, especially when he goes out of his way to talk to her. He calls her Michael Jackson (behind her back, of course) because of her trademark high-water pants, white socks, and black shoes she wears daily.

The Chemistry

SWP6 No, not between our leads (although it is amazing). Shocking, I know. I love the chemistry between our resident BFFs Kim Hye Jin and Min Ha Ri. Their friendship is the cutest thing ever, and I am savoring every bit until conflict arises. They refer to one another as “Husband” and “Wife” due to them being friends since they were kids, and it is just too adorable for words. Recently, a fan (kyunii88) told me a little something I did not know about our drama BFFs: “Reunite between 2 close friend Hwang Jung Eum and Go Joon Hee (real life), they met in “Can You Hear My Heart” and now I want to see their chemistry on screen when they act as close friend, and I think they would give a real best friend scenes not just for acting [sic]. And after I watched 1st episode, I was really touched by their bond [sic].”

This Zany Boss

SWP1 This is my second time really watching actress Hwang Seok Jung in a drama. She really does nail whacky roles, and her portrayal as Kim Ra Ra is a testament to her skills. Kim Ra Ra is an editor who is rather…out there with her fashion choices, the way she speaks, and everything else she does. She’s rich and is not afraid to show it off even if it means alienating her only nephew, whoever that may be.

Park Seo Joon’s Hair

SWP5 You read that right – his hair is a wonderful (yet shallow) reason to watch this drama. Why? Well, look at it. No explanation needed. I kid, I kid (kinda). There are no words for his acting because he’s wonderful as our cruel, yet kind Ji Sung Joon. If Park Seo Joon’s hair didn’t convince you, then how about another user’s opinion: denarvie told me that the story is something you can relate to and “Park Seo Joon and Siwon both know how to be goofs and good-looking, I mean really good-looking guys.” See, what more can you get? A quirky and fun plot that has leads with amazing chemistry and two hot guys who are both goofballs? Sounds like a pretty awesome drama to me.
