EXO Successfully Holds South Korea's First Dome Concert

EXO recently made history by being the first artists to hold a dome concert in South Korea.

“EXO-Love CONCERT in DOME” took place on October 10 in Seoul’s newly built Gocheok Sky Dome, filling all 22,000 seats. EXO had previously broken records as “double million sellers,” selling 1 million copies of their first studio album “XOXO” and another 1 million copies of their second album “EXODUS” and its repackaged version, “Love Me Right.” In addition, they got first place on various music charts and held the No. 1 spot on music programs a total of 30 times. It was expected that if the concert was successful, the Gocheok Sky Dome would continue to be used as a concert venue like the Olympic Gymnastics Arena.

The Gocheok Dome currently holds 10,000 more people than the Olympic Gymnastics Arena and the roof is insulated with film that blocks outdoor noise. EXO made full use of the dome’s advantages, performing on a massive main stage accompanied by LED screens and a moving stage that allowed the group to get even closer to fans.

EXO opened the concert with “Call Me Baby.” After the opening number, member Kai said, “I’m glad that the first dome in Korea was built so quickly and that we can enjoy a concert with Korean EXO-Ls.” Fellow member Baekhyun cautioned fans to be careful with their safety in the packed venue. “Those in the third and fourth levels may fall if you stand up and wave your glowsticks around, so please be careful,” he said.

Fortunately, the 22,000-seat, two-hour concert passed without incident. In the first half, EXO performed fan favorites such as “Don’t Go,” “XOXO,” “Thunder,” and a mashup of “Peter Pan,” “3.6.5,” and “Run.” After a dice-throwing game, the members got to showcase the individual performances they had specially prepared for the concert.

Lay performed his self-composed song “Yixing,” Chanyeol sang “All of Me” by John Legend, and Suho covered Kim Jo Han’s “I Want to Fall in Love.” Sehun prepared a dance performance, Kai performed “Beautiful Goodbye” by G.Soul, D.O sang “Boyfriend” (accompanied by Chanyeol on guitar), and Chen, Xiumin, and Baekhyun teamed up to cover SG Wannabe’s “As We Live.”

In the second half of the concert, the group performed their greatest hits such as “Growl,” “Overdose,” and “Love Me Right.” Leader Suho ended the night by saying, “I think we had a good time with our fans. Tonight will be a memory that both EXO and EXO-Ls will treasure.”

EXO will be releasing their debut single in Japan on November 4, followed by a Tokyo Dome concert from November 6 to 8 and an Osaka Dome concert from November 13 to 15.
