Ratings Soar For "She Was Pretty" Following Postponement Issues

MBC’s Wednesday-Thursday drama “She Was Pretty” has broken its own viewership ratings record yet again. The October 15 broadcast was the No. 1 drama in its timeslot, beating out KBS2TV’s “The Merchant: Gaekju 2015” and SBS’s “The Village: Achiara’s Secret.”

The broadcasting network received complaints online about postponing the ninth episode, which was originally supposed to air on October 14 and pushed back due to an extended baseball game. There was also some friction about the tenth episode airing next week as a result.

Nielsen Korea reported that the drama recorded viewer ratings of 16.7 percent nationally, beating the record 14.5 percent recorded during the last episode. This is the third episode in a row that the drama beat its own ratings record.

“She Was Pretty” is a romantic comedy starring Kim Hye Jin (Hwang Jung Eum), who is self-conscious about her appearance and hides her identity from her first love Ji Sung Joon (Park Seo Joon). The drama also involves a love triangle between these two characters and Kim Shin Hyuk (Choi Siwon).

Originally, the drama started out with low ratings (4.8 percent), pushed out by competition from SBS’s “Yong Pal” and KBS’s “Assembly.” Ever since then, viewers have talked about the relatability of comic queen Hwang Jung Eum and solid performances by Choi Siwon and Park Seo Joon.
