Actor Lee Won Geun Opens Up About His Image
Once again, KBS’s school drama bought forth another rising star. It is actor Lee Won Geun who portrayed the valedictorian Kim Yeol on “Sassy Go Go” who grabbed attentions of many from this drama. Playing the role of a pretty boy highschooler, Lee Won Geun sat down for an interview with a media outlet to talk about how he came to be in the center of attention.
About being described as a “pretty boy,” he commented, “I don’t know if I am good looking. I have friends from my school years who are very good looking. Next to them, I was always the ordinary looking one. I never got attention for my looks.”
He added, “I’m puzzled by that description. There are so many people who are very handsome out there. Why would they describe me that way? I do look okay on the screen at times, but I can’t really tell since I see myself everyday.”
About the character he played, he added, “Not a lot of information about the character was provided. I didn’t have a clear answer about how to portray Kim Yeol. I discussed with the director and we adjusted as we progressed. The director wanted me to be more cold and conceited. But I wanted to show more of a cute and relaxed side of Yeol around his friends like Yeon Doo (Jung Eun Ji)”
Lee Won Geun made his debut on MBC’s drama “The Moon Embracing the Sun” portraying the younger version of the guard warrior Oon. With this experience behind him, he has come to portray the leading man in the “Sassy Go Go” making his presence known.
Although “Sassy Go Go” ended on November 10 with low ratings, it was successful in that the storyline provided healing for many hurting students who are living in a high pressure environment where grades mean everything. “Sassy Go Go” was highly anticipated by many since it followed in the footsteps of “Who Are You: School 2015” as a drama dealing with school and students. Within 12 episodes, it was able to deliver rich stories about everyday issues students and parents face.
