Winners of the 36th Blue Dragon Film Awards

The 36th Blue Dragon Film Awards took place on November 26 at the Grand Peace Palace in Seoul Kyung Hee University. It was emceed by actors Kim Hye Soo and Yoo Joon Sang. 

The Best Picture Award went to the movie “Assassination.” Yoo Ah In took the Best Actor Award with his role in “Sado” and Best Actress Award went to Lee Jung Hyun for her role in “Alice in Earnestland” (also known as “Alice in Faithful Land”). The movie “Sado” received the most number of awards of the evening with Yoo Ah In (Best Actor), Jun Hye Jin (Best Supporting Actress), Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score.

“Assassination” took three awards for Best Picture, Best Costume Design, and Best Technical Achievement. “Ode to My Father” also took three awards for Best Supporting Actor (Oh Dal Soo), Most Viewed Award, and Best Art Direction.

Actor Choi Woo Shik of “Set Me Free” took the Best New Actor Award and actress Lee Yoo Young took home the Best New Actress Award for “The Treacherous.” Choi Woo Shik grabbed much attention by winning the award alongside the director of “Set Me Free” Kim Tae Yong who was awarded Best New Director Award. Lee Yoo Young also gained much attention since she won the New Actress Award at the Grand Bell Awards for her work in “Late Spring.”

The Best Supporting Actor Award went to Oh Dal Soo of “Ode to My Father.” He commented, “My legs are shaking so much. I need some help. I’ve never received such a great award before.” Actress Jun Hye Jin won the Best Supporting Actress for her role in “Sado.” She cracked everyone up when she said, “Honey (actor Lee Sun Gyun), I’ll be home late.”

The Best Actor Award went to Yoo Ah In who showed humility saying, “I’m more embarrassed than happy.” He displayed great camaraderie when he shared an embrace with Song Kang Ho whom he worked with in “Sado.”

The Best Actress Award went to Lee Jung Hyun for her work in “Alice in Ernestland.” This is her first time receiving an award in 19 years since her work in “A Petal.” She teared up saying, “I’m so thankful. I didn’t expect this at all since the movie was a small production.”

Other notable awards went to Park Seo Joon, Park Bo Young, Lee Min Ho, and AOA’Seolhyun for Most Popular Star Award.

The Blue Dragon Film Awards came into existence in 1963 for the purpose of contributing to the movie industry by enhancing quality of Korean films.

Best Art Direction: Ryu Sung Hee (“Ode to My Father”)

Best Technical Achievement: Jo Sang Kyung, Son Na Ri (“Assassination”)

Best Screenplay: Kim Sung Jae, Son Ah Ram (“The Unfair”)

Best Film Editing: Yang Jin Mo (“Beauty Inside”)

Most Popular Stars: Lee Min Ho, Park Bo Young, Park Seo Joon, Seolhyun

Best Short Film: Yoo Jae Hyun (“Chool Sa”)
