Seouling: Marveling at BTS's

Seouling is a new series from Soompi featuring photo tours, thoughts, and reviews of places in Seoul. By giving a view into the streets of Korea, Seouling hopes to transport Soompiers to the hub of Korean entertainment.

I heard about BTS‘s “Butterfly Dream” Exhibition a few weeks ago from a close friend. A dedicated ARMY, she was excited at the prospect of seeing their short-run media exhibition and asked if I’d like to go. I was curious about the content of the exhibition, and, after inquiring, Big Hit Entertainment was kind enough to grant me a press pass into the showing.

I wasn’t really sure what to expect, after all, what exactly is a “media exhibition?” However, I was stunned by the beautiful photos lining the walls as soon as I stepped foot into the basement warehouse where “Butterfly Dream” was. Barrel-topped displays also welcomed me in the entrance, showcasing drawings and messages written by the boys.

Although small, the exhibition is a BTS fan’s paradise, and gives a small glimpse into the making of  “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt. 2.” Unreleased photos set on cleverly decorated boxes and stands bordered the space, and a video of BTS looking ethereal on sheer-curtain-screens looped in the background.

A personal touch had been added by the members themselves, with handwritten comments dispersed across the walls, and scribbled under cases of Polaroid photos. Meanwhile, fans clustered around propped up backgrounds that members had posed with to snap photos themselves.

The exhibition concluded with a small shop filled with postcards and BTS merchandise. There was also a small stand to purchase drinks from, which were wittily coined with the member’s names. “Rapmon Hazelnut Latte,” “V Americano,” “Jin Chamomile,” “JK Caramel Latte,” and more ranged from 3,500-4,000 won (approximately $3).
