Shinhwa's Kim Dong Wan Makes Generous Donation to Comfort Women
Shinhwa‘s Kim Dong Wan continues to be actively involved in charity work.
According to reports, the singer donated 40 million won (approximately $38,000) to charity group House of Sharing on December 14. The group provides residence and support for women who were forced into prostitution during World War II.
This is not Kim Dong Wan’s first time to express his support for the “comfort women.” He donated 30 million won (approximately $29,000) to the same organization in both 2013 and 2014, and now with his latest generous donation, his total amount of contributions in three years has grown to reach 100 million won (approximately $90,000).
The artist said he hopes that his modest contribution will help support the comfort women and their persistent efforts to shed light on Japan’s flawed historical standpoint. The controversial issue of comfort women continues to hinder the positive development of Korea–Japan relations, especially as the Japanese government has yet to issue an official apology.
Meanwhile, Kim Dong Wan first got involved in charity work back in 2003, and has since donated to various organizations and helped the victims of destructive events such as the Yeonpyeong Island bombing and the 2011 earthquake in Japan.
