iKON Takes Oricon Charts by Storm With Japanese Debut

YG Entertainment’s latest group, iKON, proved their “monster rookie” status yet again by taking No. 1 on the Oricon Charts in Japan at the same time as their debut.

On January 13, iKON released their debut Japanese album, “Welcome Back.” The album sold 53,000 copies on its release and has quickly risen to the top of the Oricon Daily Album Chart.

Not long past the “100-day” mark of their official debut, the rookie group has already garnered huge popularity both domestically and abroad. The Japanese album contains Japanese versions of domestic hits “My Type,” “Rhythm Ta,” and “Airplane” as well as the tracks “Climax,” “Just Another Boy,” and “Sinosijak.”

iKON has also planned two special events for their Japanese fans at the Toyosu Pit in Tokyo and the Dojima River Forum in Osaka on January 22 and 23 respectively. In February, they will be performing a 14-show Japanese concert tour in five cities including Fukuoka and Tokyo. About 146,000 people are expected to attend in total.
