2PM Cancels Chinese Schedules Following Tzuyu’s Continuing Controversy

JYP Entertainment’s issues appear to be far from over as 2PM’s scheduled appearances in China have been canceled.

According to a Chinese industry representative, 2PM’s schedules in China were canceled abruptly. The precise nature of their schedules were not revealed, but it is likely that the cancellation was a result of the continuing controversy over TWICE’s Taiwanese member Tzuyu‘s nationality.

“We are still in the process of confirming this,” a JYPE representative said.

This cancellation comes hard on the heels of numerous other events affecting JYPE following the controversy. TWICE has suspended their Chinese activities, TWICE-related videos were removed from Chinese platforms, and 2PM’s Nichkhun canceled a personal appearance in China.

The controversy started last November on a broadcast of MBC’s “My Little Television” when Tzuyu held up a Taiwanese flag. After seeing this, Taiwanese singer Huang An took to social media to label the young singer as a supporter of Taiwanese independence. Eventually the controversy escalated, with Chinese netizens beginning to boycott Tzuyu, her group TWICE, and JYPE as a whole.

Park Jin Young and Tzuyu have made official apologies for the controversy.
