Taiwanese Media Infiltrates MBC’s “2016 Star Athletics Championships” to Film Tzuyu
Amid all the noise surrounding controversy over the nationality of TWICE member Tzuyu, it was recently revealed that Taiwan’s news channel CTV snuck in to the filming site of MBC’s “2016 Idol Star Athletics Championships” – where any filming or reporting is prohibited — to film Tzuyu, according to a report by Sports Donga.
The footage was revealed on January 18, and, while the image quality is low, Tzuyu can be clearly be seen entering the stadium and participating in the competitions with the rest of the TWICE members.
An MBC representative said, “As a rule, both Korean and international media are not permitted to report on or take photos of this event,” and JYP corroborated, “We never were asked for permission by any Taiwanese media site to report [on our group].”
Meanwhile, this is just a minor tick in a string of ongoing events and statements surrounding Tzuyu’s controversy. Most recently, JYP Entertainment released a public statement to explain Tzuyu’s apology, clarifying that they did not force Tzuyu to do anything, and that she consulted with her parents prior to making her statement.
