Taiwanese Media Outlet Explains Why They Infiltrated MBC's

Taiwanese media outlet CTV has issued a statement explaining the reasons behind their footage of the “2016 Idol Star Athletic Championships,” which was obtained without permission.

The media outlet posted their statement to their Facebook page on January 19, saying, “The citizens of Taiwan have garnered a lot of interest in Tzuyu following the incident. The citizens of Taiwan are very concerned about Tzuyu. As members of the media, we wanted to report on Tzuyu’s current situation for our viewers.” They continued to say that they wanted to check on Tzuyu’s condition, as well as see if she was actually participating in TWICEs official activities.

They finished their statement by saying, “We will pay the utmost caution to the filming regulations, and face others with a humble attitude.” Reaction to the statement from Korean and Taiwanese netizens mostly has been negative, calling out the company for not actually apologizing for their actions.

MBC, the broadcaster behind the twice-yearly event, has stated that as a general rule, domestic and international media outlets are not allowed to report on or film the event. Tzuyu’s agency JYP Entertainment also said that they did not receive any formal requests to cover the event from the Taiwanese media outlet.
