Girls' Generation's Taeyeon Places in the List of Newly Rising Chaebol Stars

Girls’ Generation‘s Taeyeon is making a name for herself as a newly rising chaebol star.

The January 25 broadcast of tvN’s “The List 2016” was a special episode titled, “The Appearance of New Wealthy People,” and revealed newly rising chaebol stars with immense incomes. “Chaebol”is used loosely here to describe being rich. “The List 2016” is a program that discusses stars with a fun ranking system as its format.

Taeyeon, the highest earning member of Girls’ Generation, finds herself in 8th place, increasing the public’s curiosity.

According to data from 2014, in one year alone, Girls’ Generation as a whole earned at least 22 billion won (approximately $18.3 million), comprised of 10 billion won (approximately $8.3 million) from domestic promotions and 12 billion won (approximately $10 million) from album sales in Japan. After the money was properly divided amongst the members and the company, and without considering income from individual promotions, each member received about 900 million won estimated (approximately $751,000).

On top of her promotions as a Girls’ Generation member, Taeyeon has personally actively participated in radio broadcasts, commercials, and drama OSTs, leaving a great impression.

Recently, Taeyeon purchased an expensive, high quality apartment for her parents in her hometown of Jeonju. She is also in the possession of a German brand sports car, worth 78 million won (approximately $65,1000), and another luxury foreign car, worth 100 million won (approximately $83,400).

This list of newly rising chaebol stars also included Lee Kwang Soo, Kim Soo Hyun, Dok2, and JYJ’s Kim Junsu, who was in 4th place.
