Super Junior’s Ryeowook Reveals He Could Have Ended Up as SHINee's Leader

On January 29 broadcast of KBS 2TV’s “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook,” Super Junior’s Ryeowook appeared and talked about the story behind his debut.

Ryeowook commented, “It feels so nice to come on the show by myself. I feel like I’m a rookie singer.” He surprised everyone when he revealed, “On my own, I had set a goal date on getting into the SM Entertainment. I told myself that I’d pass the audition on October 23, 2004 and I did.”

MC Yoo Hee Yeol asked, “Did you know you’d join a group with so many members?” Ryeowook responded, “There was an article saying that there will be a 12 member group. I seriously had doubts as to whether it would work.” He continued, “I heard that the agency was wondering whether they’d place me in Super Junior or SHINee. If I didn’t make it into Super Junior, I probably would’ve became the leader of SHINee.”

Regarding his recent solo album, he said, “I’m sure it was hard to hear my voice in Super Junior songs. I want people to hear my voice through this album. I’ll leave behind my thirty-year-old voice and will enter the military with a smile.”

“Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook” airs every Friday night at 12:10 a.m. KST.
