60 Nominees Revealed for Style Icon Asia 2016

Style Icon Asia (SIA) has opened its annual survey to decide the top style icons and trends of 2016.

The survey, which opened on January 29 on the “SIA 2016” homepage, asks people to choose the celebrities whose presence in fashion, arts, and entertainment have made an impact across Asia. The survey is available in Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese and will open next week on the Chinese portal Tencent.

The final scores are determined based on survey results, data analysis of social media, and input from a special committee. The survey selects who people think will be the hottest trends and keywords of 2016 and includes 50 celebrities from South Korea and 10 celebrities from the rest of Asia.

The 50 Korean nominees include idol groups, musicians, actors, and models, ranging from well-known celebrities such as Kim Soo Hyun, Rain, and Ha Ji Won to those that more recently shot to fame, such as Kim Go Eun, AOA’s Seolhyun, and Park Bo Gum. Musicians sample a wide variety from G-Dragon, Jessi, and Zico to EXO, Girl’s Generation, and WINNER. The nation’s MC Yoo Jae Suk and model Soo Joo are also included on the list. Survey takers must select 10 icons from this list (which includes many more not mentioned here) who have “influenced their style.”

The 10 Asia-wide nominees include Japanese actress Ueno Juri, Japanese model and Choo Sarang’s mother Yano Shiho, Chinese actress Fan Bing Bing, and Taiwanese actor Bolin Chen. Survey takers can only choose one celebrity whom they feel have “set the trends in Asia.”

The survey closes on February 24.
