“The Return of Superman” Producer Explains More Details About New Format
“The Return of Superman” recently announced that they would be changing up their traditional format by combining the three families of Oh Ji Ho, Yang Dong Geun, and In Gyo Jin on the show.
The producer, Kang Bong Kyu, gave an interview on April 22 about the new format and why he chose those particular families. All three of them welcomed a new daughter in 2015.
“In Gyo Jin, Oh Ji Ho, and Yang Dong Geun met for the first time today and they are in the middle of their first filming,” he said. “I know that people are worried about the appearance of children who are only about 5 months old. We thought a lot about what we should show people.”
“Looking at what we’ve done up until now, children seem to enjoy spending time with siblings. But in reality, many children are only children nowadays. Even two children is a lot these days, but when people take care of children together they learn a lot and they make less mistakes. So we decided to go with a group concept.”
The PD continued, “Three fathers will be gathered in one house to look after their children. All the girls are only about one month apart. Honestly, every ‘Superman’ father is nervous on his first filming, but I think they were reassured because they were doing it together.”
The producer also clarified the format, saying the first filming would be taking place at Oh Ji Ho’s house and the filming location would change every week. The families also filmed a separate segment on their own to contrast the difference between parenting alone and parenting together.
