No Min Woo Loses Lawsuit Against SM Entertainment

No Min Woo’s legal dispute with SM Entertainment has finally reached an end. On July 21, it was revealed that the star lost his damage suit against SM.

In November 2015, No Min Woo sued SM for compensation of damages incurred due to SM’s poor management while No Min Woo was with TRAX — from 2004 to 2006 — as well as afterward. “After I left TRAX, SM Entertainment didn’t do any management at all. Not only did they not offer me any opportunities to do music or act, they pressured producing directors and production company executives and interfered in my entertainment activities,” said No Min Woo.

During the trial, No Min Woo claimed, “According to SM’s demands, I agreed to extend my exclusive contract, and the total period of the contract comes to about 17 years. After signing an unfair contract in which copyright for any original compositions or musical productions were SM’s for 10 years, I did not receive anything in return. As a result, the exclusive contract [should be] invalid, as it goes against social order.”

No Min Woo also cited psychological stress, having had to play the drums even as a guitarist and having his activities interfered with.

However, the court ruling states that, as a result of insufficient evidence, they are unable to rule the contract between SM and No Min Woo invalid. The court also said evidence proving SM’s careless management and interference in No Min Woo’s entertainment work was insufficient.
