HyunA Discusses Her 10-Year Career, What She Wants 10 Years From Now

HyunA, who recently released her fifth mini album “A’wesome” on August 1, is now in the 10th year of her career since her debut in 2007 with Wonder Girls — followed by her 2009 debut with 4Minute.

In a recent interview, HyunA said, “I thought a lot on whether or not I am a singer for whom the title of ‘a 10-year artist’ is appropriate. I’ve shown my grown and evolution over the years to everyone. I started when I was 15, and now I’m 25. I think it’s a unique case for a singer. Not once have I set lofty goals. I set one a year, and I achieve them.”

One by one, HyunA is doing what she set out to do: debut, win no. 1 on a music show, release a solo album, go on an international tour.

“I’ve tried to do everything perfectly,” HyunA said. “There’s a part of me that’s really weak. That’s why I never set high expectations. Saying things like ‘I want to make music that I like,’ and ‘I want to be a musician’ doesn’t matter. I need to show it.” HyunA said, “I want to share things that I like, and step by step broaden my range and experience. That’s what I want.”

When asked where she thinks she will be in 10 years, HyunA said, “I honestly can’t give a clear answer. I’ll be 35. It’s still not very old, which is amazing.”

HyunA said it’s hard to predict what will happen, but one thing she knows for sure is that she wants to continue receiving love.

“Each day accumulates, and becomes the achievement of today. If I work harder today than yesterday, tomorrow than today, I believe that 10 years from now, I will have achieved something. Oh, and I hope to have a lot of people around me in 10 years.”
