Mnet To Debut A New Kind Of Music Variety Show Called “Sing Street”
Mnet is debuting a new music variety show that doesn’t follow the typical survival competition format often seen on the channel.
The new show, called “Sing Street,” aired its first episode on October 26 at 11 p.m. KST. The show aims to produce a music festival, but on the streets instead of a professional stage.
Hosts Park Myung Soo, Lee Sang Min, and Bong Tae Kyu each tackled the genres of EDM, hip-hop, and indie/rock respectively. Park Myung Soo is well-known for his love of EDM and works as a DJ as well as a television entertainer. Lee Sang Min was a rapper in the 90’s group Roo’ra and went on to become the producer for groups like Diva and Chakra. Bong Tae Kyu is an actor that is known for his interest in band music.
Each of these hosts paired up with a singer or a band to produce a neighborhood music festival. The theme of the show is to enjoy music as a community rather than pit groups against each other in a competition.
