"Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" PD Addresses Casting Controversy

On November 15, MBC’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo” held a press conference ahead of its first episode.

During the press conference, reporters asked about the casting controversy surrounding the casting of Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk. Previously, concerns about casting two actors from the same agency were raised when the casting for the drama had been revealed.

Producing director Oh Hyun Jong said, “I became aware that Nam Joo Hyuk and Lee Sung Kyung were from the same agency when Lee Sung Kyung was cast. YG Entertainment actually said it was burdensome on their end.”

He continued, “I felt that no other actors would be as realistic and loveable portraying the characters in the drama. Thus, I persistently persuaded them. There will be attention regarding the casting of two lead actors from the same agency, but I want to confront that while making a good drama.”

“Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo” will air its first episode on November 16 and will be available exclusively on Viki!
