The premiere episode of tvN’s “Goblin” aired on December 2 and it promptly broke the cable channel’s previous premiere ratings record set last year with “Reply 1988.”

Adding together the paid platform viewership ratings on cable, satellite, and IPTV, the first episode of”Goblin” garnered an average of 6.9 percent and a total of 9.3 percent. “Reply 1988’s” first episode received 6.7 percent and 8.6 percent respectively.

In addition, “Goblin’s” premiere garnered an average 4.4 percent and total 5.8 percent viewership ratings among men and women from 20-40 years of age, tvN’s target audience. Even including the dramas airing on public broadcasting stations, “Goblin” also had the highest viewership ratings in its time slot.

“Goblin” features a reunion between “Descendants of the Sun” writer Kim Eun Sook and director Lee Eung Bok in a fantasy/rom-com that tells the story of Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) who has become an immortal goblin and needs a bride to reverse the path his life has taken.

Lee Dong Wook co-stars as a cold, efficient, and amnesiac grim reaper who nevertheless gets into funny arguments with the goblin. Kim Go Eun plays Ji Eun Tak, who has the ability to see ghosts and is given a second chance at life with the help of her mother’s prayers.
