A scene from the latest episode of SBS’s “Romantic Doctor Kim” peaked at 30 percent in real-time viewership ratings.

The 18th episode of “Romantic Doctor Kim” aired on January 9, with nationwide ratings of 26 percent. The scene in which Kim Sa Bu (played by Han Suk Kyu) and Kang Dong Joo (played by Yoo Yeon Seok) face off against each other brought the episode its highest ratings of 30 percent.

Approximately 5,898,000 people around the nation tuned in to watch the latest episode, an audience size four times larger than that of the drama’s competitors. “Romantic Doctor Kim” attracting close to six million viewers for a single episode is extremely meaningful. Even for movies, only a few productions attract over 10 million people in a single year. “The Admiral: Roaring Currents,” one of Korea’s biggest movies ever, took 12 days to hit the 10 million mark.

“Romantic Doctor Kim” has two episodes left and it will be interesting to see if the drama can surpass the 30 percent mark in overall nationwide viewership ratings by its conclusion.
