"Infinite Challenge" May Go On 7-Week Hiatus; Production Crew Responds
On January 10, reports supposedly revealed that MBC’s “Infinite Challenge” would be going on hiatus for seven weeks, beginning the week of Lunar New Year (January 28).
Instead, “Forty’s Spring” (literal translation), a variety special featuring Kwon Sang Woo and Jung Joon Ha, will reportedly air during the show’s time slot on Saturday evening for three weeks. It will be followed by “Best of ‘Infinite Challenge'” specials for four weeks, giving the cast and crew a “short break” of sorts.
However, these rumors may just be fodder for news.
At the moment, the show’s main producing director Kim Tae Ho has not commented, as he is currently out of the country. Meanwhile, other production crew members have tentatively stated, “It’s difficult to confirm anything,” and “It’s hard to reveal our stance.”
Back in December 2016, Kim Tae Ho addressed the need for a break through a personal Instagram post. At the time, he wrote about how it felt like he was losing to time, and that if there was any gift he could receive from Santa, it would be a month of rest for the cast and crew as well as two months to prepare for future episodes.
He ended that post by directly addressing the higher ups, and said, “Let us live as well. At this rate, something is going to happen.”
If the reports are revealed to be true, this would be the first time in 12 years that “Infinite Challenge” will be going on a longer break on its own accord. While the show briefly did not air in 2010 and 2012 due to the MBC labor union holding media strikes against the station, “Infinite Challenge” has consistently aired every weekend aside from those two instances.
