From few verses to complete English versions and original songs, various K-pop artists have gratified us with a mix of catchy and serenading wordplay that made our jaws drop with every recited line. Life, love, and attitude: Here are eight times K-pop artists blessed us with epic English lyrics.
1. BTS’s Rap Monster ft. Wale – “Change”
Oh, tell me that dark could never win the light
Oh, tell me that wrong could never win the right
Baby, tell me that we gon’ someday stop the fight
And tell me that every, everything gon’ be alright
Oh tell me who’s stupid, baby, is it me or them?
Just tell me who’s insane, baby, is it me or them?
In this crazy world after patience, could we get the pearl?
But this world, which teaches me, preaches me how to curl
To celebrate his “RM” mixtape’s second anniversary, BTS leader Rap Monster joined rhymes with American rapper Wale in an epic collaboration, in which both artists portrayed different styles while conveying the same message: their desire to change the world.
2. Dean ft. Eric Bellinger – “I’m Not Sorry”
I live my life like this
Tell me how could I miss
Giving you everything you deserve
You know I be doin’ the most
While you be back at home
I promise baby it could be worse
In this unapologetic verse, Dean spoke about his arduous lifestyle. Quite the gentleman, but this doesn’t mean that he’s easy prey.
3. Tablo ft. Taeyang – “Eyes, Nose, Lips”
You left me paralyzed, no cure, no rehab for me
Funny that you got the nerve to keep asking me
How I’ve been
You’re the victor in this pageantry
But the only trophy you deserve, catastrophe
I’d rather we be dead to each other
No eulogies said for each other
No “Rest in Peace”s
The memories got my chest in pieces
In this English cover, Tablo depicted his heartbreak in a more graphic script wishing that his love interest no longer existed. Note to self: do not get on Tablo’s bad side.
4. K.A.R.D – “Don’t Recall” (Hidden version)
Imma swallow up my pride be a man and own up to my misdeeds
When I said I’d never be the one to mistreat
But l’m the reason for your pain now damn how
I never could imagine my life with you missing
You should kick him to the gutter
That’s what all your friends sayin’
But I know we can recover
‘Cause I know you know you won’t find another better lover
Ain’t nobody perfect but we perfect for each other
On a more sorrowful note, Big Matthew owned up to his mistakes and reminded his love interest that they are meant for one another despite their constant conflicts.
5. Jay Park – “Me Like Yuh”
Trust me, this is the moment you been waiting for girl all your life
Tell your friends that you don’t need a ride home ’cause I got you tonight
The Uber’s on the way ‘cause I had a couple drinks tonight
But I’m more drunk off of your love
Baby I just can’t get enough
In contrast to the previous verses, Jay Park switched his lover mode on and confidently confessed his feelings to his lady promising her the venture of a lifetime.
