Actress Kim Yoon Jin Talks About Why She Initially Objected To Her Role On

Actress Kim Yoon Jin has revealed the story behind her casting in the massive hit American television show “Lost”.

On April 1, she featured on KBS’s “Entertainment Weekly” to promote her newest film “House Above Time” (tentative title), which is set to premiere on April 5.

While on the show, she reminisced about her many projects that she’s done in the past. In particular, when a scene from the movie “Shiri” showed, she appeared a bit shy but as soon as the song “When I Dream” from the movie’s soundtrack played, her eyes watered up with tears.

Kim Yoon Jin also talked about her casting on the ABC show “Lost.” She said that she had originally gone to audition for the role of the female protagonist Kate. Director J.J. Abrams told her that she did not match with that role, which was later given to Evangeline Lilly, but that he wanted to make a whole new character just for her.

As the pre-production continued for the show, she found out that her role (the character Sun Hwa Kwon) was written as a wife who was completely subservient to her husband. She said when she first heard this, she told her agent that she could not play a role that might disparage Koreans.

However, J.J. Abrams explained his entire vision for her role in the first season and onwards, and she was convinced. The rest became history, as Kim Yoon Jin became the first Korean actress to star on an American television show in a headlining role, alongside Daniel Dae Kim who played the role of her husband.
