10 K-Pop Meets Disney Moments That Will Bring You Joy

A little Disney can go a long way (to infinity and beyond!), but put it together with K-pop and, well, it just makes sense! Plenty of artists in Korea enjoy the pizzazz and sparkle of Disney and have shared some magical covers. Here are some of our favorites:

1. “Beauty and the Beast” (“Beauty and the Beast”) – Shin Ji Hoon

Shin Ji Hoon lent her gorgeous vocals to this Disney classic to commemorate the release of the live-action film in Korea.

2. “A Whole New World” (“Aladdin”) – Lee Sung Kyung

Have you ever crooned your favorite Disney songs in the car? If you have, then you can definitely relate to Lee Sung Kyung, who starred in “Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo.” Here’s a snippet of a V Live broadcast in which she sings along to this duet from Aladdin; she may not be known as a K-pop artist, but you can find plenty of videos of her covers online.

3. “Love Is an Open Door” (“Frozen”) – Akdong Musician

Who better to sing about love than one of our favorite pair of siblings? You can even catch some of their adorable dance moves in this radio recording.

4. “How Far I’ll Go” (“Moana”) – Lee Hae Ri

The Davichi members have been acknowledged as vocal queens in Korea for years. Lee Hae Ri, who just recently released her first solo album, got to feature on the OST for Disney’s latest princess movie. 2017 is turning into an amazing year for this stellar vocalist.

5. “Part of Your World” (“The Little Mermaid”) – gugudan

While preparing for their showcase, Jellyfish Entertainment’s girl group, gugudan, impressed listeners with a special a cappella performance that may give you chills.

6. Disney Medley – Matilda

Girl group Matilda took their love for Disney to the next level with this medley performance. Not only did each girl get to showcase her vocal talent, but they each also dressed up as a Disney female lead.

7. Disney Medley – Lalasweet

Just to give you another taste of sweet Disney medleys, here’s one by the Indie duo Lalasweet.

8. “Can I Have This Dance” (“High School Musical 3”) – Luna and Onew

Onew singing Disney covers while on tour seems to be a trend (his cover of “A Whole New World” with Tiffany is also amazing). This cover is sure to bring back memories of all your favorite moments from this trilogy. You can also check out the OST recordings from the musical in Korean.

9. Rapunzel Medley – BLACKPINK

Have you ever had a moment where something just inspired you to break out into a Disney medley? Well, whether you have or haven’t… BLACKPINK has. Feel inspired.

10. “Let It Go” (“Frozen”) – SPICA’s Kim Bo Hyung

When this movie was released in Korea, it was impossible to go 10 feet outside without hearing the movie soundtrack. There are plenty of amazing covers and renditions of “Frozen” songs, but “Let It Go” remains one of the most difficult songs to cover, thanks to a blaring high note even Idina Menzel rarely hits live. You may already have a favorite and it may even be this one, or you may be grateful this one is last so you can avoid having the song stuck in your head again (you’re welcome).
