SISTAR Discusses Breakup And Possibility Of Future Reunion In New Interview

On June 1, SISTAR sat down for an interview to talk about their impending disbandment.

Regarding their breakup, Bora commented, “It was our decision, but it is sad for us, too. However, we have lived for each other for seven years, so we decided to now go down paths to focus more on our individual selves.”

The members shared, “We are not disbanding because we are sure of our future plans. Even if we promoted for a few more years, we would have been stuck in the same difficult situation, so we mustered up courage to make this decision now.” They added, “Honestly, we didn’t have trouble with our agency or discord among the members. We have happily worked together for seven years, so we will now support each other on our individual paths. Age is not crucial when taking on a new challenge, but it’s impossible not to take it into consideration.”

Their goodbye single “Lonely” achieved an all-kill on seven music charts earlier in the day, making it their twelfth consecutive release to top charts. All of their title tracks except their debut track have reached first.

Bora revealed, “We honestly didn’t anticipate getting first this time. It’s not a summer track and doesn’t seem fitting with the season, so we were especially happy and thankful to fans.” Soyou continued, “Many people probably expected a summer track, so I thought people would be disappointed that it’s not. Thank you for giving it love.” Dasom said with a smile, “I was expecting it to get first. A lot of people were disappointed when we announced our disbandment, so I thought they would really anticipate our last release.”

Dasom chose when they won on “Inkigayo” with “So Cool” in 2011 as her happiest moment over the past seven years. “We cried a lot then because we were so happy being congratulated with seniors and juniors all watching. We first won with “How Dare You” on “Music Bank,” but we didn’t get to receive that award on stage,” she explained. Bora mentioned their first concert in 2012. “The sounds of the audience, the weather, the air, I remember it all. It was a really busy time for us, but I was proud that we were able to finish it well. I felt an extraordinary emotion when all those fans were calling our names,” she reminisced.

The members were also asked if a reunion can be expected sometime down the road. Dasom responded, “It can’t be promised, but I think we can reunite once someday. It’s not that we’re breaking up because we are on bad terms, and seeing our seniors reunite these days, it doesn’t seem impossible.”

When asked if they think they will regret their choice later, they replied, “No matter what the decision is, there will always be regrets. It is disappointing, but as time passes, we are accepting the situation and trusting our decision.”

The SISTAR members did not speak much about contract renewals with Starship Entertainment, simply stating that they are in discussion. “We are just focusing on our short promotions for now. We thought it wouldn’t be courteous to our fans to just release music online, so we will work extra hard this week.”
