Golden Disk Awards Will Be Held Overseas for the First Time

In an unprecedented move from the “Korean Grammy Awards,” the 26th Golden Disk Awards Night will be held overseas. According to reports from local news agencies, the recognition ceremonies of the prestigious record industry awards will be held in Japan in January 2012.

Reports say the Golden Disk Awards will be staged at the Osaka Dome on January 11 and 12. According to the event’s sponsor, the plans for holding the Golden Disk Awards abroad have been ongoing for years, but have only now come to fruition. The choice to hold the upcoming awards show in Japan is with respect to the country’s contribution to the spread of Hallyu.

The overseas staging is also in large part because of the inauguration of new cable channel jTBC, which holds exclusive rights to the broadcast.

While it is not the first time for Korean record industry award-giving entities to hold overseas recognition ceremonies, as with MNet Asian Music Awards, it is the first time for the Golden Disk Awards since it was founded in 1986. It is an annual award presented in recognition of outstanding achievements in the music industry.
