3 Key Strengths Of

With five episodes left in its run, “Queen for 7 Days” has cemented its reputation as a well-made historical romance.

Recently one media outlet took a look at the key strengths behind that reputation as well as what to look out for as the drama enters its final stretch.

Strong characters

“Queen for 7 Days” revolves around its three leads, Shin Chae Kyung, Lee Yeok, and Lee Yoong. Although they are competing in a deadly love triangle, each character has their tragic backstory. Not only are the characters motivated by romantic love, but they have more complex motivations such as ambition and familial love. The strong characterization in the drama draws viewers in to see what will happen to them every week.

Strong script and direction

“Queen for 7 Days” has the difficult task of telling the stories of three major characters, rather than the typical one or two. Moreover, part of this storyline takes place over a long period of time, with Shin Chae Kyung and Lee Yeok falling in love in childhood. The skilful direction handles this time skip deftly, while the script does a good job pacing out Lee Yoong’s character change as he ascends to the throne and feels the corruption of power.

Strong acting

Although many historical dramas benefit from casting young ingenues, “Queen for 7 Days” went in the direction of casting more veteran actors. Park Min Young, Yeon Woo Jin, and Lee Dong Gun each perfectly embody their complex characters and are bolstered by an excellent supporting cast of 2PM’s Chansung, Go Bo Gyeol, Do Ji Won, Jang Hyun Sung, Kang Shin Il, Park Won Sang, Son Eun Seo, and Yeom Hye Ran. The actors’ talent is what brings the strong characters and script to life.

What to look out for

Most dramas really up the ante in the second half as the story builds to a climax, and “Queen for 7 Days” is no exception. With five episodes left in its run, the production staff pointed out the fate of Lee Yeok and Chae Kyung’s romance as one of the things to keep an eye on. Although the two of them have given up everything for love, it remains to be seen whether they will be allowed to live out their desires. Other things to watch out for are the rivalry between brothers (Lee Yeok and Lee Yoong) and Lee Yoong’s growing obsession. As the love between Lee Yeok and Chae Kyung deepens, so does Lee Yoong’s opposition.
