10 Idol Actors Who Really Showcased Their Acting Abilities In 2017

It’s always emotionally satisfying when an idol actor/actress actually turns out to be really good at acting. For some of us, there’s always that slight apprehension when we find out that an idol is cast in a K-drama, especially when the other actors and actresses who are cast are really respected in the industry. So, when the idol actor goes beyond expectations and proves him or herself, we really can’t help but gawk over them even more.

Here’s a look at 10 of the best idol actors and actresses from 2017, and to celebrate, let’s have a look at their best scenes from their respective dramas.

Warning: Spoilers ahead!

V in “Hwarang

V (Kim Taehyung) as the aegyo-filled Hansung is a delight to watch throughout the series. Although he doesn’t appear too often, during the times when he is on screen, he really does a good job of holding his own, especially in the midst of the other more experienced actors and actresses. The tragic death of Sung Rang is hands-down the scene that really showcased V’s ability as an actor. Almost every line spoken is heartbreaking and it really will make you emotional about his character’s death.

“My hyung… don’t hate him.”

Junho in “Chief Kim

It’s hard to believe that the sweet, smile-y Junho could be even close to acting like a villain, but he definitely showed us his acting abilities in “Chief Kim.” Junho plays the rude and arrogant Seo Yool, who is really hard to like at first. The scene that really shows us Junho’s seriousness as an actor is one of the early scenes when he treats Kim Sung Ryong (Namgoong Min) like garbage. The anger and aggression in his gestures and glare really show that he has the capability to be an annoying and hateful boss. Who would have thought he could pull off such meanness!

Kim Sejeong in “School 2017

Kim Sejeong plays the adorable, easy-to-love high school student, Ra Eun Ho. She doesn’t get the best grades in school and isn’t the smartest student, but she is a dreamer and goes after what she wants. Her first love romance with Hyun Tae Woon (Kim Jung Hyun) is too adorable to watch, especially the scene where Eun Ho turns from an adorable aegyo-filled girlfriend to a scary girlfriend in a matter of seconds.

Dasom in “Sister Is Alive

Dasom plays Yang Dal Hee, the antagonist in the drama “Sister Is Alive.” Although Dasom does not have that much acting experience under her belt, her ability to play the baggage-filled Dal Hee, who makes a new identity for herself, was highly praised. One of the highlight scenes from the series was when Dal Hee convinces herself that she doesn’t need her family anymore and is trying to make a new identity – one where she doesn’t have to be dragged down by her family’s past.

Kai in “Andante”

Kai plays the game-loving high school student Lee Si Kyung in “Andante,” who isn’t exactly the most responsible character, but is incredibly loyal and compassionate. He falls in love with the mysterious and intriguing Kim Bom (Kim Jin Kyung). They fall passionately in love with each other, and when Si Kyung finds out Bom is sick, he is emotional and doesn’t know what to do with himself. Kai’s ability to portray such confusing and torn emotions really makes this the highlight scene in the series.

Yook Sungjae in “Goblin

Yook Sungjae as the nephew of Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) is charming and endearing. He has an innocence despite his mischievous character that makes him unique, and Yook Sungjae’s ability to show such various personas in one character is impressive. The scene that especially shows his abilities as an actor is the one where it shows him after his grandfather passes away.
