Hospital Apologizes After Accident During Han Ye Seul's Surgery

Han Ye Seul is currently being treated following a medical accident that occurred during a surgery to remove a lipoma, and the hospital has now issued an apology.

The actress first revealed what had happened on Instagram on April 20 when she shared a photo of the site of her surgery and expressed her sadness and frustration. The hospital, CHA Gangnam Medical Center, later issued a statement in which they clarified what had occurred during the surgery, explaining that her skin had been burned by a heated tool.

On April 23, Han Ye Seul shared an update in which she posted a photo of her scar in its current condition and stated that her heart is sinking over the situation. CHA Gangnam Medical Center issued a press release later that day.

The hospital wrote, “Firstly, we express our apologies once again that this occurred due to a mistake during Han Ye Seul’s lipoma surgery, and we confirm again that we will do our best so that the wound heals as quickly as possible.

“Judging based on the photos that have been recently posted online, it appears that the scar will be able to be minimized through plastic surgery treatments.

“Since it appears very severe from the perspective of someone outside of the field, we fully understand that the psychological pain that Han Ye Seul would receive would be very large, and we once again deeply apologize for that.

“However, a medical professional in the field of plastic surgery has stated that current scarring in the wounded area can be minimized through the use of precise plastic surgery suturing techniques.

“We will do our best so that Han Ye Seul can receive expert treatment.

“We once again apologize for unexpectedly causing harm and concern, and we promise that as a responsible medical institution, we will make every effort.”

The hospital has also stated to news outlet OSEN that they are in talks with Han Ye Seul’s agency about compensation, and that they cannot say anything more about it at this time.

Later on in the evening of April 23, Han Ye Seul posted to Instagram following an outpouring of support from fans to say, “Thank you. I’ll find strength.”

Meanwhile, the outcry over this incident has led people to file petitions online with the government, with titles including “Please thoroughly investigate Han Ye Seul’s medical accident” and “We request the establishment of a law that would relieve the victim of the burden of proof in cases of medical accidents (Han Ye Seul incident).”

One poster wrote, “I am scared that myself and my family may also become victims of this kind of medical professional. Based on a patient’s right of knowledge, please make a system where the details of a medical accident and information about the related medical institutions and professionals are shared when a medical accident occurs and it’s recognized to have been malpractice.”
