"Secret Mother" And "Lawless Lawyer" Premiere With Promising Viewership Ratings
SBS’s “Secret Mother” and tvN’s “Lawless Lawyer” kicked off the weekend drama viewership ratings battle.
According to Nielsen Korea, the two dramas got off to a good start on May 12. The four consecutive episodes of “Secret Mother,” which aired from 8:55 p.m. to 11:15 p.m. KST, recorded 4.8 percent, 6.5 percent, 6.5 percent, and 7.8 percent, respectively. These ratings are similar to the ones received by the network’s previous drama “The Good Witch.”
“Secret Mother” began its first episode with the story of a mysterious murder and suspicious relationship between a mother named Kim Yoon Jin (played by Song Yoon Ah) and a surrogate mother named Kim Eun Young (played by Kim So Yeon).
The story started with Kim Eun Young’s death and explored the twisted relationship between the two women.
tvN’s “Lawless Lawyer” achieved viewership ratings of 5.3 percent during its first episode, which aired at 9 p.m. KST.
This drama tells the story of a human rights lawyer named Bong Sang Pil (played by Lee Joon Gi) who became a lawyer to find out the truth behind his mother’s death.
“Lawless Lawyer” drew in viewers who were excited to see Lee Joon Gi and producing director Kim Jin Min work together for the first time in 11 years after “Time Between Dog and Wolf.” The drama also quickly drew connections between its characters Ha Jae Yi (played by Seo Ye Ji), Cha Moon Sook (played by Lee Hye Young), and Ahn Oh Joo (played by Choi Min Soo).
Meanwhile, KBS 2TV’s “Marry Me Now” achieved 27.8 percent, two consecutive episodes of MBC’s “My Husband, Mr. Oh” received 9.1 percent and 13.1 percent, and JTBC’s achieved “Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food” 7.3 percent.
